It was a big concert week with some big names — at venues big and small across West Michigan.
There was the Kalamazoo tour stop by 1990s heroes Goo Goo Dolls at State Theatre, the same night that the Celeste Allison Trio held its album-release show at Old Dog Tavern, New York alt-rockers X Ambassadors lit up 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids, Michigan’s own pop/soul artist Tunde Olaniran brought his dance-hued display to The Pyramid Scheme and singer-songwriter David Bazan kicked off a two-night stand at Listening Room.
Earlier in the week, singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus rocked Calvin University’s Covenant Fine Arts Center, David Wax Museum christened the new Listening Room, pop-punk/emo’s Simple Plan and State Champs revved up 20 Monroe Live and the Seratones brought their soulful attack to The Pyramid Scheme.
Later in the weekend, hip hop’s A$AP Ferg returned to Grand Rapids, pumping up 20 Monroe Live, while Kalamazoo hip hop cellist Jordan Hamilton and Jessica Ivey played Kalamazoo’s Sandbox Listening Room (a night after performing at Grand Rapids’ Harmony Hall).
