Things have quieted down after all the New Year’s hubbub, but the music stayed lively from Grand Rapids to Howard City, shared in photos at Spins on Music.

There’s nothing quite like a bluegrass jam, that camaraderie-based, you-take-the-next-solo vibe that permeates the genre and adds to its upbeat charm.

So, the recent Friday night jam session at the one-of-a-kind Zellie’s Opry House in Howard City — featuring talented acoustic musicians young and old — boasted “lively music, awesome pickers and vocalists,” according to venue proprietor Terri Grannis. In other words: “Fun evening.”
But that was just the tip of the chilly iceberg, er, icicle, in the post-New Year’s Eve musical offerings featured in photos here at Spins on Music. It also included Blackberry Smoke and Juicy J at The Intersection (two different shows, obviously, and it seems like EVERYBODY was the Juicy J concert), Michigan inventive folk outfit Breathe Owl Breathe in a sold-out show at The Pyramid Scheme and the guitar-driven ChupaCobras at the Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill.
