West Michigan's music scene
With Christmas less than two weeks away, touring acts and West Michigan artists have been gifting audiences with powerful performances, captured in images by Local Spins photographers.
• At The Intersection, Texas alt-rockers Blue October brought their Christmas show to Grand Rapids on Saturday (the next-to-last stop on a U.S. tour). The same night, Grand Rapids metalcore band Hollow Front revved up a sold-out Stache. Earlier in the week, the nightclub hosted up-and-coming country artist Jameson Rodgers along with Drew Parker.
• At Grand Rapids’ Listening Room, Canadian singer-songwriter Allison Russell lit up the stage on Thursday, followed on Friday night by West Michigan keyboardist-singer Hannah Laine and Chicago’s NIIKA.
• In Kalamazoo, Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe hosted Southwest Michigan rock band BoneHawk for the first time in more than two years on Friday, with Bell’s following up on Saturday with The Insiders tribute to Tom Petty.
• Lokella and Hexing — with Years Later and Old Fire — rocked the rafter at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids on Saturday.
• In Muskegon, Unruly Brewing got revved up Friday night thanks to sets by Grand Rapids’ Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps and Nathan Walton & The Remedy.
Of course, the biggest show of the weekend with 10,000-plus attending: James Taylor and His All-Star Band with special guest Jackson Browne at Van Andel Arena on Friday.
