An expanded concert series spanning everything from Violent Femmes, 311 and Slash to Jason Isbell, Bruce Hornsby and Nickel Creek to Norah Jones, Jason Mraz and Lake Street Dive will greet Interlochen Center for the Arts patrons this summer.
With today’s announcement that legendary folk-punk band Violent Femmes will rev up Interlochen’s 3,917-seat Kresge Auditorium on June 20, the 2024 calendar already boasts 15 shows with more on tap.
“We have two major goals for this season. The first is to bring more artists to campus than we did last year. We are aiming to bring 20 this year,” said Brent Wrobel, executive director of Interlochen Presents.
“The second goal is to program a wider variety of genres. This year we have rock, pop, punk, blues, bluegrass and so much more. We are taking a ‘something for everyone’ approach with the hope to bring in a broader demographic to our shows.”
Indeed, the roster of artists so far ranges from the disco-fueled retro blast of KC & The Sunshine Band (June 27) to bluegrass powerhouses Old Crow Medicine Show and Molly Tuttle (July 11) and a triple rock bill of 311, AWOLNATION and Neon Trees (July 26).
Two concerts announced earlier already have sold out: Eclectic jazz artist Norah Jones with R&B/gospel singer Mavis Staples on July 13, and folk-pop’s Jewel and rock icon Melissa Etheridge on Aug. 5.
Tickets for remaining concerts – which range in price from $33 to $139 – are available online at https://www.interlochen.org/concerts-and-events.
“We are hoping to book a few more shows for the summer series, so the Violent Femmes will not be our last announce,” stressed Maureen Oleson, Interlochen’s Director of Communications.
