Four days after Amon Amarth, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary and Frozen Soul unearthed “bulldozer riffs” amid a lineup that reviewer John Serba described as some of “the greatest, ugliest, most slime-ridden” and “epic” death metal bands ever, Massachusetts’ Staind led a parade of hard rock/alt-metal outfits into the sprawling Van Andel Arena.
On its “Tailgate Tour,” Staind pumped things up with help from Seether, Saint Asonia and Tim Montana.
Opening with “Lowest in Me,” from the group’s latest album, “Confession of the Fallen,” to “Mudshovel” (from 1999’s “Dysfunction”) that wrapped up the encore 15 songs later, Staind uncorked a career-spanning set led by singer (and sometimes country artist) Aaron Lewis.
Seether, meanwhile, set things alight with “Gasoline” to get its night started while also delivering renditions of its uber-popular songs “Broken,” “Fake It” and “Remedy” (which closed out the set).
Browse photos of all four bands below, with set lists for Staind and Seether to boot.
