Ann Arbor’s NOMO has impressed international audiences and media outlets such as Pitchfork, Alternative Press and National Public Radio with its melting pot of jazz fusion, Afro-beat, funk and more.
But the headliner for the second-year All Call Music Festival hosted by Traverse City’s Little Fleet on Sunday only skims the surface when it comes to the eclectic collection of artists performing at the 2023 event.
Flint’s Tunde Olaniran promises to bring a resplendent dance-fueled spectacle to the outdoor stage, Chicago’s V.V. Lightbody unfurls what she calls dreamy “nap-rock,” Grand Rapids singer Molly oozes socially conscious pop-fueled soul, Detroit’s Stoop Lee revels in soulful hip hop and fellow Detroiter MRKT is all about experimental, genre-mashing magic.
Add to that the visual displays of Traverse City’s Super Nuclear and the six-act, one-day festival that takes up the adjacent street has plenty to attract music lovers inside and outside the region — not to mention food trucks and two bars.
“The goal of the festival is to bring new, diverse, interesting music to the area,” said Little Fleet owner Gary Jonas. “The music ranges from instrumental Afro-beat to soulful R&B to hip hop and more.”
