Talk about another banner year for Michigan music.
Fast-emerging stars dazzled the world – Billy Strings (from Muir), Greta Van Fleet (from Frankenmuth), The War and Treaty (from Albion) – while the region continued to spawn a growing number of impressive, up-and-coming artists who released infectious tracks spanning countless genres, hip hop to Americana.
Local Spins on WYCE, which spotlights music by Michigan artists at 11 a.m. Fridays and 5 p.m. Sundays on WYCE (88.1 FM) and online at wyce.org, debuted more than 400 new tracks by local and regional artists in 2023, as well as interviewing more than four dozen acts and studio owners to give listeners a unique peek into their creative process.

Many other programmers at the Grand Rapids community radio station were equally stoked about Michigan-bred music, thus filling the airwaves seven days a week.
Ultimately, through listener requests and programmer selections, WYCE music director Chris Cranick compiled a Top 10 list of the most-played tracks by artists from Michigan, revealed in today’s Local Spins on WYCE broadcast and podcast (which you can listen to by scrolling down to the bottom of this page).
