Joywave first caught the ear of the public with an inventive approach to online mixtapes. Alternative rock artists Grandson and The Demos (also from the Northeast), have been accompanying Joywave for a majority of the tour which started on July 17 and will be at this tour stop.

There’s no one quite like The Melvins and they’ve become a true fan favorite during their numerous Grand Rapids tour stops at The Pyramid Scheme — and this one’s even more special because singer-guitarist Jon Spencer (of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion fame) is also on the bill.
The Melvins, are touring the United States in support of their latest album, “Pinkus Abortion Technician,” and heads to Europe this fall. The Washington rock band formed back in 1983 spans everything from punk to sludge metal to grunge, led by singer-guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover. Featuring popular post-grunge alt-rockers 3 Doors Down and Collective Soul, which put out their fifth and ninth studio albums respectively in 2015, the show will be a blast to the past for some. Collective Soul took home Billboard song of the year honors in ’94 with “Shine” and ’95 with “December” and 3 Doors Down hit it big with monster hits “Semi-Charmed Life,” “Jumper” and “How’s It Going to Be” in the same decade.

This is actually just the final volley in a very busy week for the 2018 edition of the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival (which also boasts a street dance on Tuesday night and Waterfront Stadium sets by Lakeshore Big Band on Wednesday, The System Bob Seger Tribute on Thursday, and Hotel California Eagles Tribute on Friday). The Saturday finale features Material Girls: a tribute to legendary singers and divas Madonna, Cher, Lady Gaga and Adele. It’s billed thus: “Their voices are spot on and their looks may have you thinking they’re actually the artists themselves,” backed by an all-female band. And right afterward, it’s the festival’s just-as-legendary fireworks extravaganza.
