New York rapper and songwriter Nas brings his tour to Grand Rapids to kick off the week. Nas has released eight consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums and has sold more than 30 million records worldwide.
The Grammy-nominated Nas, with a reputation for fiery performances as well as aiding charities in Africa, released his highly acclaimed debut album, “Illmatic,” in 1994, and a subsequent album, “It Was Written,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went double-platinum in two months.

The fresh boy band Prettymuch kicked off its U.S. tour in Dallas earlier this month. The pop group consists of five guys who originally aimed to pursue solo careers but were spotted by Simon Cowell, who helped mold them into a group that’s compared to One Direction. Inspired by old-school R&B acts such as Boyz II Men, the band has a dedicated fan base and was cited by Pandora and others as an “artist to watch” in 2018.

California’s Dawes has come a long way since its indie-folk/folk-rock beginnings back in 2009. The band – brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, Wylie Gelber and Lee Pardini – has released six studio albums, including 2018’s “Passwords,” which soared into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Rock and Folk charts. The touring band also features standout guitarist Trevor Menear, who happens to be the son of former WLAV radio personality Kevin Matthews of Grand Rapids.
Also on the bill for this tour is fast-rising country singer Margo Price, who has earned well-deserved kudos for her throwback country approach and was nominated for best new artist at the Grammy Awards earlier this year. Celtic rock with high-energy flair. California’s Gaelic Storm has been creating a hurricane of Celtic rock spawned by traditional Irish and Scottish music for more than 20 years.

The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, of course, pays tribute to the service personnel who protect and monitor our waterways, but it’s a celebration that also provides loads of entertainment, from a carnival to a mammoth parade to ship tours to performances by the U.S. Coast Guard Band.
But there are also several straight nights of concerts at the new Lynne Sherwood Waterfront Stadium right downtown, with tributes to popular stars of the past. Get the full schedule here and remember that Saturday’s show is followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
