A quartet from Miami, Torche will bring 15 years of revered doom metal to Grand Rapids. The band is performing in support of its newest album, “Admission,” which was released July 12.

A pop-rock duo from Salt Lake City, I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME was formed in secret and only confirmed its existence when its first single, “Choke,” was released in 2018.

Coming to Grand Rapids as a part of its first large U.S. tour since 1981, Jeff Lynne’s ELO is set to bring back epic live shows, performing a variety of ELO’s 20 Top 40 Hits and more. Lynne is also known as one of the best record producers in music, working with legends like The Beatles, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Bryan Adams.

And speaking of which, George Harrison’s son, Dhani, is opening the concert. Tickets for this show are still available and can be found here.

CONOR OBERST

American singer-songwriter Conor Oberst, best known for his work with bands such as Bright Eyes, Desaparacidos and The Faint, is coming to Bell’s for a special solo performance outside in the Beer Garden. Joining his first band at the age of 13 and setting himself apart with his uncommon insight, detail and political awareness as a songwriter, Oberst has been releasing music since 1993 and has solidified himself as singular and prolific in the hearts of many who’ve followed him and much of the new wave/indie folk revival.

JASON BONHAM’S LED ZEPPELIN EVENING

Son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, Jason Bonham created the Led Zeppelin Experience which started touring worldwide in 2011. Bonham will bring this nostalgic night featuring Led Zep’s much-beloved music to Grand Rapids this time around.

Grand Rapids singer-songwriter Brant Satala has long impressed listeners with his insightful, well-crafted. Now, he’s part of a new band, The Far Shore, which features Satala on vocals and guitar, Bex on vocals and Ian Grant on bass, performing compelling indie-folk, alt-folk and folk-pop music.

Singer-songwriter and special guest Lane Ellens will get the evening started.

Local Spins Wednesdays feature Michigan beer specials and are presented by Local Spins, SpeakEZ Lounge, North Coast Guitar Co. and WYCE. Free parking is available in the city lot on Monroe Avenue kitty-corner from SpeakEZ just to the south – and in the Sixth Street Park lot to the north.

The Mavericks have a long rich legacy of churning out neotraditional country music mixed with Tex-Mex, Latin and rockabilly influences. Outside of a holiday release, the band’s most recent album is 2017’s “Brand New Day.” This show is the band’s Meijer Gardens debut. (Read the Local Spins interview with The Mavericks later this week.) Getting things started will be another genre-mixing favorite who have played Meijer Gardens many times before, Los Lobos.

Marcus Rezak is the whole package with talents as recording artist, musician, session guitarist and music theorist. He is bringing his heated guitar playing to The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, after leading the electronic super-group Digital Tape Machine and playing with Katharsis, Shred is Dead, FrankenZaps Monster and Stratosphere All-Stars. He’s also collaborated in the past with David Bowie, Frank Zappa, The Aristocrats and more.

Popping by from a string of solo appearances with moe and Blues Traveler, G. Love, leader of the funky Bob Dylan/Beastie Boys-esque group G. Love and the Special Sauce, will be stopping by for a solo show at “one of his favorite venues in Michigan:” the Back Room at Bell’s Eccentric Cafe. The Philadelphia native is best known for his work with Jack Johnson as a tour-mate and producer, as well as his numerous collaborations with bands like The Avett Brothers and Dave Matthews.

G. Love’s laid-back brand of funky, hip-hop-esque indie folk has captured the hearts of quirky audiences at some of the best venues and festivals around – Milwaukee’s Summerfest and Red Rocks to name only a couple – and his solo performances are some of the most intimate, funny and enthusiastic shows. Three high school kids with a love for alternative rock music grew into adults who are now thriving in their musical careers with passion. Mo Lowda & the Humble have released two full-length albums, one in 2013 and one in 2018. With an element of fun, Mo Lowda & the Humble now average 100-plus tour dates a year, nationally and internationally. The band expects to release a new album in early 2020.

Continue your summertime thrills with The Piano Cottage kids as they present “The Piano Cottage Rocks.” The family-friendly show features children ages 8 to 16 with a wide range of skill levels. When storms rolled through the region last weekend, this block party had to be postponed. So, now Zoko 822, The Garage Bar and StreetEatsGR are teaming up to try again for this blowout, day-long block party.

The fun begins at 2 p.m., with food trucks, drink and food specials, and patio seating with outdoor bars to enjoy the great Michigan summer weather and opener The Legal Immigrants. For some Michigan-grown country rock, Gunnar & The Grizzly Boys will hit the stage at approximately 7:30 p.m.

MURDER BY DEATH

Touring in the wake of their latest release, “The Other Shore,” Murder By Death will bring a super-eclectic brand of heart-wrenching folk rock ballads and stories from the road to Kalamazoo’s Old Dog Tavern  Saturday. The five-piece band of Bloomington, Ind. natives are known for a unique blend of musical genres, carrying gothic themes worked into classic country and western-style music with an indie twist.

The band, named after the famous 1977 movie by Robert Moore about five diverse private eyes, has performed at Lebowskifest, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Boiling Pot Festival. One year ago to the date of this show, The Mint @ The Intersection threw a party to celebrate the release of eRoy’s “Sleep Without Dreams” EP. It was such a good time that it’s happening again with “double the greatness” to celebrate the release of eRoy’s sequel EP “Dreams Without Sleep.” The performance will include a two-hour set with a super group live band (including local fixture Brandino Ponch), with all the same local artists from last year. With improvements in production and space but the lineup remaining the same, this show celebrates the great steps forward all these artists have taken over the past year.

He brings his massive talent to Mulligan’s Pub Friday. Wuzee has gained a reputation as one of West Michigan’s most entertaining performers. The Groove Suns playing New Holland Brewing’s Pub on 8th in Holland, 10 p.m. Friday — The Groove Suns from Detroit can play an acoustic set one minute and the next, transform into a full on electronic set. 

Caribbean Summer Jam IV playing 20 Monroe Live in Grand Rapids, 9 p.m. Saturday, $20 general admission, $45 VIP ticket— The ultimate summer Caribbean party is celebrating a fourth year at 20 Monroe Live. The night will feature Dj Sanjay, Dj Tony Banks and Pjdadj. Kalamazoo Academy Of Rock 10th Anniversary Celebration at Old Dog Tavern in Kalamazoo, 1 p.m. Sunday, donations accepted – The entire Kalamazoo Academy of Rock lineup, plus special guests, will be outdoors on the stage at Old Dog for this day-long celebration of its 10th anniversary. Helping musicians of all ages learn how to rock in bands or acoustic solo performances, The Academy offers lessons, songwriting and performance workshops, confidence building skills and so much more.
