Even at their relative young age, the members of The Accidentals need no introduction in West Michigan. The indie alt-folk trio from Traverse City has made a splash across the country with inventive music and nearly non-stop touring, most recently promoting its debut album on the Sony Music Masterworks label, “Odyssey.” For this show, the band is playing a benefit for the American Red Cross of West Michigan to aid disaster relief efforts and the continued mission of the American Red Cross.
The 20 Monroe Live concert is the second part of a unique two-part fundraising event called “Hometown Heroes Encore.” The 21-and-older event is open to the public and begins with special guest Stephie James performing at 8 p.m., followed by The Accidentals. Gothic/doom metal rocker Chelsea Wolfe (touring behind 2017’s “Hiss Spun”) and The God Bombs are also on the bill for this Grand Rapids tour stop.

Memphis singer-songwriter Julien Baker has risen the ranks quickly since releasing her debut album, “Sprained Ankle,” in 2015, turning heads with her indie alt-rock and alt-folk music.
She’s touring behind her latest album, “Turn Out the Lights,” which Pitchfork described as wrestling with “self-worth, rejection and God” and praised for its defiant, unbridled approach. (Many of the shows on her current tour, including Tuesday’s Detroit stop at El Club, are sold out.)

Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel’s 48-year legacy is an impressive one: 20 studio albums, 10 Grammy Awards and a devoted audience for the band’s Western swing, Texas country and Ameripolitan music, not to mention entertaining stories. The band’s stop in Grand Rapids is part of St. Cecilia’s “Acoustic Café” series hosted by syndicated radio host Rob Reinhart.

Broccoli Samurai’s four musicians bring a funky, jazzy electronica mix to the stage that will shake your tail feathers. The Cleveland natives are a staple at jam band festivals, and have played Rothbury’s Electric Forest in previous years: Ryan “Bruce” Hodson (keys and synth), Cameron Bickley (percussion), Michael Vincent (guitar, synth) and Zachary Wolfe Nagi-Schehl (bass).
The band has a full plate in Michigan for the next week: 8 p.m. Friday at Unruly Brewing in Muskegon; 8 p.m. Saturday at Otus Supply in Ferndale; and 9 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at The Loft in Lansing. One of Kalamazoo’s all-time favorite bands, The Go Rounds, fires up two West Michigan venues this weekend – and puts smiles on the faces of its “hometown devotees” – with a big assist from East Coast “schizodrift” singer-songwriter Caroline Rose. Graham Parsons and The Go Rounds are preparing to release a new EP, with a video for a new single, so excitement is brewing.
The shows kick off a Midwest tour for both acts, with stops in Indianapolis, Chicago, Davenport, Detroit and Toronto. The band’s been around for a long time, but West Michigan-bred Willamena continues to get radio airplay on stations across the country for its pop-hued rock, including the single, “Open Up The Stars,” which was released in November. For its return to Grand Rapids, Willamena will perform as a duo, with Chad Hendrickson and Lukas Ross. Opening the show will be Ludington singer-songwriter John Merchant.

The film traces “the journey, hardships and triumphs of American musician and composer W.G. Snuff Walden,” described as “a generous soul who overcame the excesses of rock ‘n’ roll to find success as one of the most beloved composers in television history.”
Acoustic performances by Jim Shaneberger and John Merchant will take place prior to the film, followed by a discussion led by Maxey about how alcohol impacts the regional music scene.
