The “leaks” have begun.
As is Rock the Rapids’ habit, the first two of six dates of the August downtown Grand Rapids music festival were announced today: Shinedown, Papa Roach, Staind, Godsmack and Adelitas Way will hard-rock the parking lots behind Van Andel Arena on Aug. 21, with Evanescence, Chevelle, Halestorm, Cavo and New Medicine playing on Aug. 23.

The Aug. 21 date is part of the Rock Star Energy Drink Uproar Festival Tour, while the second show forms the Grand Rapids stop for The Carnival of Madness Tour, part of Evanescence’s comeback of sorts after releasing its third, self-titled album late last year.
Concerts on both of these dates will begin early, at 2 p.m.
Rock the Rapids kicks off this year on Aug. 20 on parking lots dubbed “Festival Village” near the arena, and runs through Aug. 25, with additional headliners to be announced in future weeks.
Two-day passes — $49 and $79 – go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through showclix.com or by calling 888-718-4253. VIP passes and various upgrades also are available. Get more details at the Rock the Rapids website.
After first being held at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, Rock the Rapids last year moved to downtown Grand Rapids with Jonny Lang (forced into headliner status after Lynyrd Skynyrd had to cancel due to illness at the 11th hour), Alice Cooper, Blake Shelton, Ludacris, Willie Nelson and Stone Temple Pilots performing.
