It was more than just a “Samba for Sam” when Dogs in a Pile brought its psychedelic jams to Elevation inside Grand Rapids’ Intersection on Friday. The New Jersey band also uncorked favorites such as “Bent Strange” amid its 11-song set.

On Saturday, country singer Ryan Hurd brought “Midwest Rock & Roll” (the title of his new album) to Elevation for enthused fans, with funk’s always-entertaining and well-wrapped Here Come the Mummies upstairs in the main showroom — the same day that the second annual GIG: The Art of Michigan Music conference set up shop in Jackson with exhibits, workshops and performances.
