Appropriately, Ryan Bingham & The Texas Gentleman opened their weekend Grand Rapids tour stop with “Nothin’ Holds Me Down.”
That’s because Friday’s GLC Live at 20 Monroe show seemed to have it all — from songs such as “Southside of Heaven” from Bingham’s debut 2017 album to several tracks from his latest release to covers of music by The Allman Brothers Band (“Whipping Post”) and Miguel Aceves Mejia (“La Malagueña”). Full set list here.
The same no-holds attitude could describe Friday’s tour stop at Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe by alt-rock/Americana’s Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, with the Arizona band unleashing not only a bevy of songs from its new album, “Hell to Breakfast,” but a dozen selections from Clyne’s 1990s run with The Refreshments — inspiring sing-alongs. Full set list here. West Michigan’s own Stovepipe Stover got the night started.

Kalamazoo’s Glow Hall followed that on Saturday with a night spanning R&B, indie-pop and indie-rock: Kalamazoo’s Basic Comfort (playing lots of new material), Marquette art-rockers BIMBO and Southwest Michigan’s Shai Li.
And Old Dog Tavern hosted a Wednesday jazz jam featuring The Saxsquatch, Adam Danis, Tim Brouhard and others. Scroll down to browse all of these photo galleries.
Plus, check out separate recaps and photo galleries from Friday’s album-release show by Roosevelt Diggs at The Pyramid Scheme and the SpeakEZ Lounge debut by Hand of Giants: Roosevelt Diggs proves there’s ‘No Place Like Home’ with jam-packed release show
