From singing along to country singer Carly Pearce at Kalamazoo State Theatre to reveling in knee-slapping bluegrass fun courtesy of Full Cord at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill to celebrating Dizzybird Records’ anniversary at The Pyramid Scheme to getting transfixed by the songwriting charm of Tre Burt, Nathan Kalish, Chloe Kimes and DL Rossi at Listening Room and Haley Heynderickx at Wealthy Theatre, it was a riveting musical week to remember.
And perhaps most impressive of all was the jam-packed crowd on hand Saturday for a very good cause at Kalamazoo’s Final Gravity Brewing: A benefit for Ukraine featuring performances by Marisa Aguirre (Blue Veins) and others, plus sales of its “Ukrainian Anti-Imperial Sout” brewed with the country’s favorite beets. (Turnstiles in Grand Rapids also hosted a “Stand for Ukraine” benefit on Saturday featuring Inner Itch, Run Silent, Crossing Bard and Y-Not.)
The musical revelry in all those corners and many more signals the spirited revival of live music after a two-year COVID slowdown — and just as spring begins to emerge. View all of the photo galleries below, plus click on these links for some special show recaps/reviews:
