Pianist and singer Regina Spektor’s sold-out show at 20 Monroe Live was just part of a week that spotlighted regional and national acts from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo.

In Grand Rapids, indie-pop/anti-folk artist Regina Spektor was full of broad smiles Saturday while playing to a sold-out crowd at 20 Monroe Live, the same night that young Michigan blues-guitar phenom Jake Kershaw was impressing a capacity audience gathered at Hudsonville’s The Pinnacle Center for the annual Music to Benefit Music dinner, auction and concert raising funds to purchase instruments and supplies for area school music programs.

The night before, Grand Rapids roots rock band Bigfoot Buffalo pumped things up for its CD-release show at Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill (bringing in horns at one point), with Conrad Shock + The Noise and Flexdecibel also performing
Meanwhile in Kalamazoo on Saturday, the 11th edition of the Kalamashoegazer festival unfurled at Bell’s Brewery with performances by Airiel, Whimsical and a half-dozen other bands.
Earlier in the week, singer-songwriter Nicholas James Thomasma hosted the first “Songteller Sessions” show at Creston Brewery in Grand Rapids with tales and songs by Thomasma, Ralston Bowles and Lexi Adams, the night after Blue Water Ramblers and the Pete Bardolph Trio staged an intimate night of music for Local Spins Wednesdays at SpeakEZ Lounge.
