West Michigan's music scene
If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this Local Spins weekend photo gallery roundup has a value in the millions.
West Michigan’s concert calendar for the first full week of December brimmed with numerous tour stops by a diverse set of national and international acts:
Country’s Old Dominion at DeltaPlex Arena, electronic music’s Manic Focus at The Intersection, folk-rock’s Melissa Etheridge and alt-rock’s Eve 6 at 20 Monroe Live, British indie-pop’s The Japanese House at Park Theatre (Hope College Concert Series) and experimental folk’s Ryley Walker playing Calvin College.
Then there were the local stars:
The Concussions (with The Madeira and The Troubadours) packing Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill for a night of groovy surf rock, Kalamazoo singer-songwriter Kaitlin Rose recording an album live in front of an audience at Overneath Creative Collective, and Michigan string trio The Moxie Strings playing their final show with percussionist Fritz McGirr at Wealthy Theatre (with Brian Oberlin and Dan Giacobassi opening).
In addition, Nathan Walton unfurled a nine-piece band on the tiny stage (and off the tiny stage) at SpeakEZ Lounge for his Local Spins Wednesdays debut (with Cheap Emotion opening).
Plus, there was the 1998 Tribute Show (Nada Surf, Hole, Refused, Fatboy Slim) at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids and a Tom Waits Tribute at Final Gravity Brewing in Kalamazoo.
