This weekend’s Local Spins Weekend Photo Gallery covers the gamut of live music from Lansing to Grand Rapids to the lakeshore.

Gather ‘Round the GRAM: The Moxie Strings kicked off this summer’s GRAM on the Green series on Friday. (Photo/Anthony Norkus Photography)
The summer string thing can take many forms: the Celtic-flavored romp of The Moxie Strings, the fiddle-powered bluegrass locomotive that’s the Old Crow Medicine Show, the six-string heavy metal guitar blast of Mastodon and Machine Head, the soulful folk-pop/rock of Joe Hertler & the Rainbow Seekers.

West Michigan's music scene
West Michigan got that and more this weekend, with the kickoff to the GRAM on the Green concert series outside the Grand Rapids Art Museum with Ann Arbor’s Moxie Strings, the continuation of a jam-packed season of shows at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park with a sold-out concert by Old Crow Medicine Show, the return of heavy metal’s Mastodon and Machine Head, who tore up The Intersection, folks enjoying music at The Market presented by the Avenue for the Arts, Rick Chyme and others performing at Mike G’s Hip Hop Heavyweights competition at The Intersection, Hannah Rose Graves belting it out at SpeakEZ Lounge, and Valentiger and those Rainbow Seekers revving up Founders Brewing.
Some folks also headed east to Lansing for the week-long Common Ground Music Festival, which featured the likes of MGMT, The Avett Brothers and Grand Rapids’ own Kari Lynch Band opening for Little Big Town. Others headed west to the lakeshore, catching the likes of Callaghan performing at Spring Lake’s Seven Steps Up with opener Erick Baker.
Check it all out here in the Local Spins Weekend Photo Gallery.
