Boasting the fastest sellout in the 12-year history of Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill, Michigander — led by Midland native Jason Singer — got up-close-and-personal with its fans at the jam-packed club on Grand Rapids’ West Side on Sunday night.
Opening the evening with a note of caution — “This is going to be loud” — Singer and his anthemic pop-rock crew unleashed recent releases and older favorites alike during the intimate, weekend-ending bash that followed Tip Top’s 12th anniversary show on Saturday starring The Supersuckers and The Delta Bombers.
The crowd sang along, jumping and cheering for every song, with now Nashville-based Singer jumping off the stage numerous times during the show to directly interact with fans. He even handed his microphone to a fan to act as a human mic stand at one point, while Singer jammed on guitar and sang.
Near the end of their set, Singer and drummer Aaron Senor chatted about a song they’d written back in high school called “Grand Rapids,” insisting they “definitely weren’t making this up.” By night’s end, everyone inside Tip Top was covered in sweat and wearing massive smiles.
