The comments from fans and the performers said it all.
“What a talent-rich night it was,” concertgoer Ed Atanasoff noted after Friday night’s first-ever “Michigan Night” at Kalamazoo’s State Theatre with sets by The Accidentals, Lindsay Lou, Patty PerShayla & The Mayhaps and the Jordan Hamilton Trio.
“Such a great night,” wrote Kalli Dempsey.
“My heart is overflowing,” added Linda Seiler, with Lori Anne Hacker calling it an “amazing show” and fan Michael Beyer describing it as “a beautiful night of music.”
Even indie-folk powerhouse The Accidentals lauded the evening’s performances on Facebook afterward.
“What a show. Huge love to Nicole (LaRae) at Kalamazoo State Theatre for bringing us all together in a gorgeous theater, in our home state, to play some tunes for a crowd of music lovers,” they wrote. “The energy was amazing.”
Local Spins’ Derek Ketchum noted that some on hand celebrated the fun by dressing in Halloween costumes, including “Wizard of Oz” get-ups for The Mayhaps, a Barbie & Ken theme for The Accidentals and other characters represented in the audience.
An upbeat crowd filled the orchestra pit, with several hundred fans attending the inaugural State Theatre event. And at the end of the show, members of all four bands returned to the stage to close out the evening impressively with an acoustic song led by Lindsay Lou.
The concert starring Michigan talent was just part of a robust week of live music from Grand Rapids to Kalamazoo, including:
• Electronic music’s Owl City, country music’s Ernest, singer-songwriter Niko Moon and the sold-out Bass Country Halloween at The Intersection’s various venues;
• Seattle rock band Mudhoney and psych-rockers Hooveriii at The Pyramid Scheme;
• Silent Spirit, Tess Clark and Matt Loeks unfurling “A Night of Ambient Music” at The Stray in Grand Rapids.
• Bad Religion — with Drug School and Speed of Light — closing out the weekend with a tour stop at GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids.
(Editor’s Note: Local Spins will update this photo gallery round-up on Monday with photos from Bad Religion’s Sunday night tour stop at GLC Live at 20 Monroe.)
