When the Tuesday Evening Music Club tonight fires up its biggest, most robust season ever at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, it will do so with some special musical fireworks planned by both artists on the bill.
Award-winning Kalamazoo hip-hop cellist Jordan Hamilton — who often performs solo — plans to play as part of a trio.
The Elijah Russ Collective, meanwhile, will fill the stage with 12 musicians, uncorking soulful, genre-melding rock.
“We’re super stoked,” said Russ, who recently released two studio albums. “Expect some high-energy fusion rock with a 12-piece band of some of the best musicians in West Michigan.”
Hosted by singer-songwriter Ralston Bowles, it’s a fitting spectacle to kick off the 2022 series that showcases local and regional artists from a wide swath of genres.
Admission to the 7 p.m. shows is free for Meijer Gardens members and just the usual admission price to the gardens for everyone else — one reason why the series attracts big, family-friendly crowds on Tuesday nights.
As a special preview to this season’s expanded Tuesday Evening Music Club lineup, Local Spins has compiled a special playlist featuring most of the artists playing the series this summer. (Some weren’t available on Spotify.) Listen to the tracks and scroll down for the full series schedule.
