West Michigan's music scene
At a sold-out Kalamazoo State Theatre on Saturday night, it truly was a “Femininomenon,” a colorful “Kaleidoscope” and a fan-energizing spectacle, propelled by the nonpareiled, fast-rising, pop superstar Chappell Roan.
And that came less than two months after she packed The Intersection in Grand Rapids with similarly enthusiastic and resplendently garbed devotees.
On Thursday at Grand Rapids’ GLC Live at 20 Monroe, meanwhile, the West Michigan return of emerging blues/Southern rock “Hero” Marcus King was full of guitar-driven “Mood Swings” as he toured behind his latest album.
The night before that, it was the hard rock/metal assault of one-time Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, who cranked up the amps with his band at The Intersection in Grand Rapids.
Then there was the opening salvo of the first-ever Hoxeyville Spring music festival in the Manistee National Forest about 116 miles north of Grand Rapids, with the likes of The Infamous Stringdusters, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, Luke Winslow-King, Hannah Rose Graves and Airborne or Aquatic heating up the stage on Friday to get the three-day affair started.
Beyond that, Kalamazoo hip-hop cellist Jordan Hamilton staged a listening party at The Clover Room on Friday for his latest release, “Project Freedom.” Scroll down for images from all of these shows.
