Over the past 15 years, Grand Rapids’ La Dispute has proved its mettle as one of post-hardcore’s most sought-after, beloved acts, with an acclaimed brand new album, “Panorama,” that boasts a title inspired by Kent County’s terrain.
So it’s only apropos that the band’s hometown show on Saturday would make the perfect eighth anniversary celebration for a beloved concert venue, The Pyramid Scheme.
The sold-out affair featuring some touring band members impressed fans, as did sets by the other two bands performing that night — Chicago’s Slow Mass and Florida’s Gouge Away. Local Spins photographer Kendra Petersen-Kamp called it an outstanding triple bill.
They “were some of my favorite new finds last year,” she said of Slow Mass and Gouge Away. “I haven’t been that satisfied with a three-band lineup in ages.” Check out the photo gallery here, with images from other shows below.

JAKE’S MUSIC FESTIVAL AT ELEVATION INSIDE THE INTERSECTION
The turnout wasn’t what organizers had anticipated, but Jake’s Music Festival proved to be an impressive showcase of emerging — and established — talent at Elevation inside The Intersection in Grand Rapids on Saturday.
Kicking off with DJ SYLX and the Latin-infused rock of Cabildo, the 15th annual event raising money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation had the walls of the nightclub reverberating with sets from Grand Rapids’ Stone Soup & The Broken Teeth, Brighton’s Young Pioneer, Grand Rapids’ Barrel Bones and The Autumnatic (with brief appearances by Emma Loo and Todd Herring in between).
