Before Texas-bred, Los Angeles-based rapper Riff Raff even stepped on stage Wednesday night, The Intersection’s cozy Stache was filled with energy that reflects Grand Rapids’ hip-hop scene.

The opening lineup brought together a mix of emerging and established local artists who each added something different to the night, turning the show into more than just a headliner performance.
From Jon Lach’s crowd-grabbing remix to collaborative moments featuring Ajax Stacks, Speed Gang, Steven Malcolm and Sonny Ski, the event highlighted how connected and supportive the city’s hip-hop community continues to become.
Lach’s remix of Juice WRLD’s “Off The Rip” gave his set an instant spark, blending a familiar sound with his own delivery. He kept that momentum going by bringing out Sonny Ski to preview an upcoming track, turning his set into both a performance and a preview of what’s next.
Phantom Group Entertainment (PGE) followed with one of the most energetic sets of the evening. Group members brought a strong stage presence that never dipped, with their sound moving in different directions throughout the set, keeping the crowd engaged.
Ajax Stacks and Speed Gang built on that energy with a set that felt both polished and natural. Running through tracks such as “Payaya” and “Strobe Light,” the two showed clear chemistry on stage.

Another highlight came when Stacks brought out Malcolm to perform their song, “Gold Gym.” The collaboration connected in the moment and displayed the tight level of their performance.
“It means everything,” Stacks said of performing and curating Wednesday’s event.
“I got to watch the OGs before me do it, and now it’s my turn. You have to give back to the community that built you. It is only right to spread that shine.”
For Speed Gang, the night carried extra meaning. After spending months recovering from surgery, being back on stage in front of a crowd was something he did not take lightly.
“I am glad I am here right now,” he said. “I would not rather do it anywhere else than the intersection.”
Unkey Fonz (UnkleFlexxx) also unfurled a personal moment. Mid-set, he brought his son on stage to perform several songs with him, shifting the energy in a different way. The set felt like a real moment between family and music, and the crowd responded to that authenticity.
By the time Riff Raff came out, the crowd was already fully engaged. His set felt like the final piece of a night that had been building from the first performance, closing things out on a high note and further elevating Grand Rapids’ hip-hop scene.
Meanwhile, right next door in The Intersection’s main showroom on Wednesday, Alabama progressive metalcore band ERRA and Connecticut metalcore outfit Currents rattled the house on “The Silence Follows” tour, with Aviana and Caskets also on the bill. Browse photos from both shows below.
