Talk about a dance-fueled, funky start to the weekend.
West Michigan’s Simply in Time packed Grand Rapids’ intimate SpeakEZ Lounge during its Local Spins Fridays debut, with dancers grooving to the fusion band’s catalog of R&B/pop favorites as well as its unique, jazzy and soulful takes on everything from AC/DC to Crowded House.

Meanwhile, Kalamazoo got things started even earlier on Thursday with the same sorts of funky, jazzy, soulful and bluesy vibes unfurled in the form of music from Great Britain’s The New Mastersounds, who brought the U.S. tour behind their latest album, “Old School,” to Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe, with Detroit’s own funky fusion outfit, Act Casual, opening the show.
The dance party continued at Bell’s on Friday, when West Michigan jam band Desmond Jones took the stage along with Muskegon funk favorites Flexadecibel.
