While country sensations Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson and more attracted a crush of Faster Horses attendees who romped all weekend long in front of the colossal country music festival’s Main Stage, a herd of younger fast-emerging acts were making waves, too.
One of those up-and-coming stars, Michigan’s own Sadie Bass, made her Faster Horses debut by kicking off Saturday’s performances on the Next From Nashville stage.
“Faster Horses was awesome. The energy in that place when I played ‘Holy Ground’ felt really electric,” said Bass, 27, who grew up in Bath, Mich., just 66 miles from the grounds of the Michigan International Speedway where swarms of country fans baked in the sun over the three-day festival.
“I was more nervous on stage than I thought I’d be. I think I just knew that 25 minutes was gonna go so fast and there wasn’t much time to really take my time or talk to the crowd, but it was really cool when I sang my songs to see people singing along.”
Bass also was tickled to play in front of a good-sized crowd, even though the set took place early in the day. “(Organizer/promoter) Live Nation told us that this was the biggest opening set they’ve ever had attendance-wise, so that was really, really cool that they (fans) showed up for me like that.’
Bass also spent the festival’s opening day roaming the infield in a golf cart to greet fans.
“Thankful for what we got to experience, for sure,” she said. “I know deep down that I’ll be back on the Main Stage one day. Until then, I’ll be patient and I’ll keep working on what needs working on.”
