When the Drive-By Truckers rolled into Kalamazoo on Tuesday, they turned the ignition on their set at Bell’s Beer Garden with a “Slow Ride Argument” and finished up their alt-country/Southern rock ride 16 songs later with “Angels and Fuselage.”
The trip through the Georgia band’s catalog even took a detour at one point with a heartfelt tribute to late Black Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osbourne — and all of it was just part of a much-varied jaunt for West Michigan music lovers over the past week:
• Americana’s Shakey Graves kicked off the week with a crowd-pleasing sold-out affair at Bell’s Beer Garden;
• There was Tennessee country/pop artist Redferrin (“Stuck,” “Mornin’ Montana”) lighting up Elevation inside The Intersection in Grand Rapids on Tuesday;

• Alt-pop’s Guster delivered a magical night of its catchy classics with the Grand Rapids Symphony during a sold-out show Wednesday at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park;
• Heavy rock, indie-rock, hardcore bands of every ilk rattled The Pyramid Scheme for the return of T-Rex Fest starting Friday (and continuing today);
• The Red Shed in Hudsonville hosted its first “Nashville Comes to Hudsonville” show on Friday with Chicago singer-songwriter B.J. Fisher;
• Country music duo LoCash (“I Love This Life,” “One Big Country Song”) brought its summer U.S. tour to The Intersection on Friday, with West Michigan’s own Prior Noon opening;
• Liquid Note in Otsego hosted its outdoor Reggaefest on a Saturday that started with rain but cleared for the evening with a bevy of Michigan and Ohio bands on tap, including Highdeas, Caliko and Land of Panda.
