With the forced weather evacuation from Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival for a few hours on Sunday night, organizer Paxahau offered an unprecedented courtesy to the crowd by allowing Sunday pass holders free entry on Monday — and the day did not disappoint.
Azzecca got the day moving near the entrance with a brilliantly positioned set of house and techno.
Borderland offered up a cinematic soundscape that would been received just as well within the film interstellar as it was for those at the Movement Stage.
The back-to-back of DJ Tennis and Gerd Janson was the set Detroit didn’t know it needed, with a steady gallop of house and techno emanating off of the Detroit River near the Hart Plaza festival site.

Memorial Day weekend also boasts the traditional Bus Benefit presented by Buses by the Beach, this year staged in its new location at Smiling Acres in Trufant. Loads of Michigan music and upbeat camaraderie dominated the three-day affair.
As attendee (and photographer) Owen J. Smith put it: “I am recharged with positive energy and love after another weekend of reverie with you all.”
