Fifteen years in, Buttermilk Jamboree has become a treasured family tradition, a jam-packed showcase of regional music and a picturesque June celebration.
The three-day music festival unfurling this weekend amid the meadows and woods at Circle Pines Center in Delton – midway between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo – boasts dozens of performances on four stages, workshops, children’s activities and unparalleled camaraderie.
“My family and I have so many friends from within the music community who attend, which makes it really special,” said West Michigam musician Mark Schrock, who’s performed with several different bands at the festival over the years, starting in 2015.
“The site is beautiful, family-friendly, and the lineup is top-notch. The Buttermilk staff and volunteers have become friends as well. If you haven’t been yet, dear reader, I recommend that you go this year.”

Schrock, of Fennville, who performed for the first time at the festival with Madcat Midnight Blues Journey, will handle multiple duties this weekend playing sets with The Schrock Bros and Jive at Five, not to mention the possibility of jamming with others.
“As far as Buttermilk goes, as a resident of southwest Michigan, this is closest to a ‘home festival’ that I have,” Schrock noted.
Whether they live nearby or across the state, many musicians view Buttermilk as “home,” with this year’s lineup led by Kalamazoo’s All American Funk Parade, Knee Deep Shag, The Go Rounds, Kait Rose, Grace Theisen, Great Lakes Brass and The Nathan Moore Affair, Cadillac native Luke Winslow-King (now based in Spain), northern Michigan’s Elizabeth Landry Trio and Charlie Millard Band, and Grand Rapids’ Molly, Space Bar, Y-Not, The Bootstrap Boys and more.
