The 2016 D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops series capped off another successful season with a charming performance from R&B sensation Boyz II Men Thursday evening at Cannonsburg Ski Area.
Dressed casually in all-white outfits, the Philly vocal group — Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris — thanked fans for “bearing the heat” and joked if they had worn their standard tuxes, “One of us would probably pass out.”
The symphony paired beautifully with the legendary trio’s smooth vocals. A soft orchestral intro to “Girl In the Life Magazine,” followed by an opening verse in Spanish sent the engaging crowd into the first adoring frenzy of the evening.
With Stockman suggesting “this might be a karaoke moment for some of you,” the group then launched into its version of Journey’s “Open Arms.” The crowd swooned.
It was a night filled with nostalgic karaoke moments for fans, with the group crooning a mixture of its own original hits, ’80s and ’90s favorites and a few Motown classics, including a beautiful rendition of “Easy Like Sunday Morning,” which got the crowd to its feet.
After the sun had set, “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” proved to be one of the evening’s highlights, prompting a group of fans to dance in front of the stage and inspiring a whole lot of arm swaying.
