When Grand Rapids’ singularly admired Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill celebrates its 11th anniversary on Saturday as a West Side music institution, Ted Smith and crew will do it with a “raw, wild and passionate” display of vintage rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and blues courtesy of Nashville’s The Hi-Jivers and Grand Rapids’ Hank Mowery & The Hawktones.
The celebration comes after what Smith calls “a very strange year” and post-pandemic struggles faced by the venue.
But it also commemorates the Tip Top’s legacy of hosting established touring acts and “up-and-coming artists” representing the best of American roots music as well as a slew of local and regional bands.
The Destination Live Music crew — David Darling and Michael Whitenack — recently sat down with Smith to discuss the venue’s 11-year history, as well as preview upcoming shows.
Get tickets and details about Saturday’s 11th anniversary show online here. Tickets are $12-$15; the show starts at 9 p.m.
