Old Crow Medicine Show returns for another sold-out affair at Meijer Gardens, this time touring behind the band’s sixth and latest studio album, “Volunteer,” which features some electric guitar work for the first time in many years – a recording that shot straight to No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart.

Herbie Hancock’s half-century-plus career is the stuff of legends. Not only has the jazz keyboardist embraced boundary-pushing, genre-stretching music throughout his career, but he continues to explore and experiment as he works on yet another upcoming new studio recording.

They include Marshmello, Testpilot, Get Real, Rezz and Superduperkyle, among others.

It’s come down to this for four bands seeking the final performance slot at August’s Cowpie Music Festival taking place south of Grand Rapids on Shagbark Farm near Caledonia. These talented Michigan groups – The Zannies, Quantum Fleek, The Smokin’ Dobroleles and Biomassive – each won opening rounds of the “Pathway to the Pasture” band battle, staged at different venues in Grand Rapids, Holland, Lansing and Kalamazoo.
On Friday, they’ll duke it out on stage for a panel of judges who will choose the group that will be added to the bill for Cowpie, which features such big names as Keller Williams, The Steel Wheels, Hyryder, Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, Ultraviolet Hippopotamus and more. Blondie – Debbie Harry, Chris Stein and Clem Burke, plus Leigh Foxx, Matt Katz-Bohen and Tommy Kessler – kicks off its summer tour in Grand Rapids, playing Meijer Gardens for the first time, then travels north to Interlochen for a Saturday night show.
The popular New Wave and punk-styled pop-rock band brings a fair amount of nostalgia with songs such as “Heart of Glass” and “Call Me,” but the group also has released new studio albums in recent years, including 2017’s “Pollinator.” Grand Rapids’ surf-rock champions The Concussions open the Grand Rapids show.

This legendary, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame prog-rock band is celebrating its 50th anniversary. This particular version of Yes (there are two out there touring) features Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood. The band is making three Michigan tour stops this week, starting with a Thursday night show at Interlochen Center for the Arts (get tickets and details online here), followed by Friday’s concert in Grand Rapids, and finally a Saturday appearance at Fox Theatre in Detroit.

It’s released a dozen albums over the years, including 2016’s “This Was Never Home,” and the trailblazing group continues to perform what it calls “explosive” shows across the country.

Icelandic folk/blues-rock band Kaleo is near the end of a North American tour, with the Grand Rapids date falling between shows at Milwaukee’s SummerFest and a concert in Toronto. The indie-rockers, who first got together back in 2012, have released two studio albums, with 2016’s “A/B” spawning the platinum-selling single, “Way Down We Go,” which hit No. 1 on the alternative chart.
