In many ways, it was a country music weekend across West Michigan.
Russell Dickerson (“Blue Tacoma,” “Love You Like I Used To”) took advantage of sunny skies and a brand-spanking new Acrisure Amphitheater in downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday to regale fans with the help of Niko Moon (“Good Time”) and Adrien Nunez (“Low Road”).
The same night, some 50 miles to the south, country singer Redferrin (“Just Like Johnny”) — who first made his mark with Florida Georgia Line — heated up Bell’s Brewery Beer Garden in Kalamazoo, with fellow Nashville artist Shaylyn (“The Drink”) getting the night started.
Earlier in the weekend, Cody Johnson — Country Music Association’s 2025 Male Vocalist of the Year — brought his U.S. tour to Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena, with Kip Moore (“Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck”) and Emily Ann Roberts (“Whole Lot a Little”) opening the Friday concert.
But it wasn’t just about country on area stages, with:
• The one-day emo festival (“I’d Rather Be in Michigan Fest”) on two stages at Bell’s Beer Garden on Friday with Saturdays at Your Place, Liquid Mike, Harrison Gordon, Worry Club, Final Boss Fight, No Problemo, Satsuma and Kerosene Heights that had the sold-out crowd moshing, dancing and crowd-surfing throughout the night;
• Michigan’s own Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers and Desmond Jones at a revamped Warner Vineyards in Paw Paw on Friday;
• Jon Hayes & The Company, with Often Home, Megan Stark and Rusty Vining & His Friends, at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, also on Friday.
