THE READER RESPONSES:
Greg S. Lewis – Charlie Sexton at Kalamazoo State Theatre when he was 17-18.
Frank Tobin _ Steve Winwood and Mike Shrieve.
Lynn Blossom – Jake Kershaw, for sure!
Da’Veonce Washington – Bro (Jake Kershaw) is so talented!
Waydutch Bob – This came up in my feed today: young bassist Ellen Alaverdyan
Bradley Raffenaud – Betray
Tom Morefield – Jonno Johnathen Clayton
Greg Miller – Cecil Alexander Jazz Guitarist. Guitarist Max Brown is another. Both making good in major markets.
Nic Stubbs – Hands down, pianist Joey Alexander. One of the few players that come around once in a generation.
Lee Chase – Christone Ingram – guitarist/singer out of MS
Scott Veenstra – Right now, for me, one of the baddest of the baddest, real deal young prodigies is jazz pianist (and guitar shredder, multi-instrumentalist) Jason Lee Schultz. His young sister also is a killer drummer and bass player. This is not just cookie cutter stuff, with young kids learning some great technique on their instrument and banging out some covers, these kids can REALLY play. Jason was studying piano for a while with Jeremy Siskind (who we had teaching at WMU for a while).
Justin-Lee Schultz – “DO I DO.” featuring FunkYardX off his Debut album
Scott Veenstra = Dig this one kid! Justin Lee Schultz. Not only the technique and the vocabulary, the improvisation and the interplay with other musicians is very mature and deep!
Nicholas James Thomasma – I met Billy Strings when he was 16 years old and playing in a metal band. I was like “Wow. That kid is gonna be famous.” I also attended Lamb’s Retreat Songwriters with Katie Larson and Sav Accalia when they were around 15 or so and had just started The Accidentals. Once again, I was absolutely blown away.
Chuck Bob Carnes – Jake’s a good player. (Jake Kershaw0
Daniel W Dawe – Billy Strings
Chad Michael Wedeven – Sav and Katie of The Accidentals. From the get-go, they had the talent and drive to not only get better, but get heard.
Tyler Beer – Drummer JD beck
Dave Adams – Hunter Hayes was quite impressive when I saw him open for Carrie Underwood. Not quite sure if he was still a teenager then, but very close if he wasn’t.
Hans Voss – Billy Strings
