THE READER RESPONSES:
Rich Emerson – The Accidentals, “Vessel.” The Accidentals’ “Vessel,” is about a journey — as people, as musicians, as bandmates. The album, the Michigan trio’s third full-length, takes stock of a 10-year trip that’s been filled with twists, turns, hairpin curves and some rest stops.
Steve Sly – My favorite is probably Styx – “The Crash Of The Crown”. Great to hear a legacy classic band still putting out fantastic music late in their career. Honorable mention to Myles Kennedy – The Ides Of March, Dream Theater – “View From The Top Of The World”, Joe Bonamassa “Time Clocks”, Iron Maiden “Senjutsu”, Greta Van Fleet “Battle At Garden’s Gate.”
Mike Metchikoff – Favorites of 2021: ”Raise the Roof” by Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, “The Future” by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, “Surrounded by Time” by Tom Jones, “Jake & Friends” by Jake Shimabukuro, “Downhill from Everywhere” by Jackson Browne, “Triage” by Rodney Crowell, “For Free” by David Crosby, “Layla Revisited” by Tedeschi Trucks Band, “Long Lost” by Lord Huron…to name a few!
Kyle Rasche – “Wicked Good” (by Stovepipe:Stover), “The Darkness & The Light (by Mike WardPsychoSongs), “Pocket Knife” (by Morgan Haner), “-Remember the Oxygen” (by Spencer LaJoye), “Cigarettes” (single) & “Monsters” (single) (by KariLynch), All the EPs (by Travis Atkinson). Gah… so many more!
Mike Ward – “Remember The Oxygen,” Spencer LaJoye. “Wicked Good.” Stovepipe, “Lucky One,
Mark Jewett. “Cigarettes “& “Monsters (singles), Kari Lynch. “Blue Heron Suite,” Sarah Jarosz
Jack Clark – Lord Huron, “Long Lost”
Bruce Vanderkooi – James McMurtry came out with a record that is as good as anything he’s ever done. The Killers had a very different release that blew me away (intimate, mellow and well written). I agree with Lord Huron, great record! If you don’t know Ben de la Cour, check him out.! Might be my favorite release this year.
Joel Schultze – Waxahatchee or Bonnie Prince Billy/Matt Sweeney
Terry J DeBoer – “You’d Better Run,” Cameron Blake with Majestic Praise featuring Debra Perry.
Morgan Haner – “Twelve Songs” by Steven Leaf
Matthew Farage – Lots of Michigan performers. I’d nominate myself if I could (lol). I never made it because of a bad memory. When you consider the hundreds of singers I sing karaoke to and thousands of voices I create so well, I hope one day to get in the Guiness books for.
