Odesza, Illenium, Zeds Dead and Above & Beyond will headline next June’s festival in Rothbury, along with “house band” The String Cheese Incident, which will play two sets over the four-day event.
Jamie XX, Sofi Tukker, Gryffin, Lane 8, Ganja White Night, Chris Lake, Chromeo, Rezz, Goose and Madeon also pump up the initial 2023 lineup announced by organizers, with festival passes going on sale Friday (Dec. 9).
Popular returnees will include Dixon’s Violin and Gorgon City, who are among more than 50 acts revealed thus far for the June 22-25 festival at Double JJ Resort that hosts upwards of 50,000 attendees each year.
Wristbands start at $485 (plus fees) for general admission, with a variety of more expensive camping options ranging from $725 to $2,949, and cabins/log homes priced as high as $8,239. Get details online at electricforest.com.
Passes usually sell out the first day that they’re offered for sale by Electric Forest.
Reaction from fans to the lineup announcement included many expressing disappointment that Colorado’s The String Cheese Incident would only be playing two sets for the 2023 event, as opposed to the usual three or four of past years. Some questioned the EDM-heavy lineup and urged the addition of more jam bands.
“This lineup is so recycled,” fan Will Huber wrote on Facebook. “It feels like I blasted back to 2015. All of those guys have played EF multiple times and in my mind they’re all old news.”
Others insisted the Electric Forest festival atmosphere remains the main draw, regardless of the lineup.
“Kinda hard to not have an amazing experience at Forest regardless of the lineup,” wrote Michael Ritchie. “Just go enjoy the vibes and everything the forest has to offer.”
Regarded as Michigan’s biggest music festival, the 2022 spectacle featured sets by the likes of GRiZ, The Disco Biscuits, Sylvan Esso, Big Gigantic, Louis The Child, Lotus and many more performing on a half-dozen different stages on the sprawling West Michigan site.
In addition to performances on several stages, the festival features a silent disco, daily yoga sessions and various curated events during the weekend.
