There was Mustard Plug’s “Home for the Skalidays” bash at The Intersection in Grand Rapids on Saturday, marking more than two decades as an annual romp of ska and punk — this time also featuring J. Navarro & The Traitors, Devon Kay & The Solutions and Dance Contraption.
Florida nu-metal band Nonpoint pumped up The Intersection’s Elevation in Grand Rapids the same night.
Just down the road, The American Hotel System, King Ink and Wilson Ave started a new tradition with the Grand Rapids rock band hosting its inaugural “Hometown Hotel Holiday” party at The Pyramid Scheme.
In Kalamazoo, it was a mix of new and old: The Incantations’ Saturday fling at Shakespeare’s Lower Level featured singer-guitarist Nathan Walton’s new band project, Splifford, while young, up-and-coming folk duo Payton & Annabelle hosted a sold-out tribute to the legendary Simon & Garfunkel at Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe.
