Grand Rapids’ much-adored ska ensemble uncorked another rollicking holiday affair Saturday for an ebullient bunch, while American WiFi got poppy in the front lounge for its Christmas bash.

There may not be a more beloved Grand Rapids band than Mustard Plug, which has been trotting out its rollicking, deliciously entertaining ska strains for more than two decades for ultra-devoted fans who bounce, twirl, body-surf and boogie throughout the band’s stage shows.

That celebratory vibe was on full display for the group’s annual holiday show at The Intersection on Saturday night with several hundred exuberant attendees applauding the horn-infused ensemble.
As usual, effervescent frontman David Kirchgessner led the cheers — aided by the signature mustard bottle head and some Santa Claus garb — following opening sets by MU330 (from St. Louis), Hollywood Makeout, Bong Mountain and Cashed Out.

Mustard Plug covered the breadth of its catalog, from early fan favorites to tracks from its latest album, “Can’t Contain It.”
And speaking of “can’t containing it,” you would have been hard-pressed to find anyone in the crowd who wasn’t wearing a goofy smile.
Smiles were prevalent in The Stache, aka The Intersection’s front lounge, too.
On the very same night, pop-rock’s American WiFi hosted its first-ever Christmas show with help from the bands The Great Indoors and Half/Love.
Check out the photos from both shows, along with some video snippets from Mustard Plug.
