Not quite sold out after all: A few tickets to see Old Crow Medicine Show, Grace Potter and several other summer shows were released this week. But the Tears for Fears opener has been postponed until Sept. 26.

UPDATE: Tears for Fears’ Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith have announced they have rescheduled their concert at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The concert originally scheduled for June 6 will now take place on Monday, Sept. 26. Tickets purchased for the June 6 concert at Meijer Gardens will be honored for the new date. Members may buy tickets for the rescheduled date during a members-only presale through midnight July 1. If tickets remain available after the members-only presale, sales to the public will begin at 9 a.m., July 2. The band originally postponed the June show and its U.S. tour due to a “family illness.”

Some fans who missed out on tickets to summer concerts at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park have another shot at tickets to several of those shows after all.
But the season’s June 6 opening concert by Tears for Fears apparently has been postponed altogether after the band announced its summer U.S. tour has been put on hold due to “family illness.”

A record 24 of 30 shows sold out to members in less than three days after tickets went on sale two weeks ago.
But a small number of tickets have become available this week to several concerts previously announced as sold out: Tedeschi Trucks Band (June 17), Michael Franti & Spearhead (June 22), Fitz & The Tantrums (June 26), Ben Folds (July 10), Old Crow Medicine Show (July 14), Goo Goo Dolls (July 27), Grace Potter (Aug. 3) and Toto (Aug. 14).
EDITOR’S NOTE: A few remaining tickets to see Ben Harper sold out late Thursday. And all remaining tickets to the Goo Goo Dolls and Toto were sold out by Friday morning.
Still, concertgoers need to move fast: Fewer than 10 tickets are available for many of these shows.
Meijer Gardens public relations manager John VanderHaagen insisted “this happens every year” because a certain number of tickets initially are held back from sales for band “comps” — complimentary tickets set aside for bands, fan clubs, record labels and artist management – and then are released when those requirements are fulfilled.
“We released those over the weekend which caused some shows to show up as available again,” said VanderHaagen, who noted that only “a small amount of tickets have become available due to band and record label returns.”
In addition to tickets to the previously mentioned shows, Meijer Gardens still has tickets available to The Monkees (June 8), Femi Kuti (July 20), Lyle Lovett (July 24), comedian Jay Leno (July 28), WAR & Los Lonely Boys (Aug. 10) and Seal (Aug. 26).

Tears for Fears
Tickets are available online at startickets.com, by phone at 1-800-585-3737 or in person at the Meijer Gardens admission desk, 1000 E. Beltline Ave. NE.
Tears for Fears, which soared to prominence in the 1980s, had been slated to open the 2016 summer series at the outdoor amphitheater on June 6.
But in a statement posted on the band’s website, Tears for Fears’ Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith “regrettably” announced today that they had to postpone their summer run of dates in the United States due to family illness.
“It’s with great disappointment that we have to postpone our U.S. summer dates due to unforeseen and unhappy circumstances,” the band said in a statement. “We thank our fans for their understanding and hope to get back on the road soon.”
VanderHaagen said Meijer Gardens officials have not determined whether the June concert would be rescheduled. It was the second date on the band’s scheduled summer tour.
Fans who bought tickets to the June 6 show can get a full refund by calling Star Tickets at 1-800-585-3737 or by emailing customerservice@startickets.com including their order number, and first and last name to receive a refund.
They can also hold on to their ticket and if the show is rescheduled for a new date, that ticket will still be honored. If the concert is unable to be rescheduled, a full refund will be issued at a later date.
Interlochen Center for the Arts in Interlochen, Mich., announced today that the July 13 Tears for Fears concert there has been canceled. Refunds will be made to all of those who purchased tickets.
