Los Lobos and Little Feat on June 21, The Temptations and The Four Tops on July 12, and Andrew Bird and Amadou & Mariam on Aug. 9 lead today’s “sneak-peek” announcement of three show bookings for the Fifth Third Bank Summer Concerts at Meijer Gardens.
With the full summer lineup set to be announced in April, today’s reveal also came with another news flash: AXS will be the new official ticketing provider for the concert series, replacing Etix.com after some opening-day sales glitches frustrated some ticket buyers in 2023.
“AXS focuses on the user experience, allowing for a streamlined process along with future enhancements that allow guests to control their tickets the way that they want to use them,” Meijer Gardens insisted in a prepared release about the ticketing outlet founded in Los Angeles in 2011. “Additional information and user guides will be available when the complete 2024 summer lineup is announced in April.”
Meijer Gardens members will have first crack at concert tickets during a pre-sale that starts April 20. Tickets go on sale to the general public on April 27.
The iconic Los Lobos boasts a half-century legacy as a Mexican-American rock, blues, Tex-Mex and soul outfit, starting in East L.A. and continuing today with many of the same members on board. They’ve played Meijer Gardens several times, most recently opening for Emmylou Harris in 2021.
They’ll pair up with another legendary rock act with more than 50 years under its belt, Little Feat, which two years ago launched its “Waiting for Columbus” tour celebrating the 45th anniversary of the band’s classic live album.
Another returning favorite, Motown’s The Temptations, will up the ante in 2024 by bringing along another soulful, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame luminary with roots in Detroit, The Four Tops. Between them, these vocal groups boast more than three dozen Top 40 hits.
And finally, Illionis-bred, indie-rock multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird — whose previous appearances at Meijer Gardens have drawn rave reviews — will once again take the amphitheater stage in August, this time joined by Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, who were nominated in for a Grammy Award for their 2008 album, “Welcome to Mali.” Bird last played Meijer Gardens in 2022.
“It’s going to be another great summer and we’re confident in AXS’ ability to handle the demands of our member pre-sale,” said John VanderHaagen, director of communications for Meijer Gardens.
