West Michigan's music scene
Call it orchestral charm meeting funk friskiness.
Such was the case on Saturday when the Grand Rapids Symphony welcomed Boston funk phenoms Lettuce for a rare pairing of musicians from disparate parts of the musical spectrum.

“A truly unique experience, and this performance is the only show on the current tour to feature the songs from (Lettuce’s) latest live concert album, performed with a symphony orchestra,” wrote Derek Ketchum from Local Spins, who also described it as “a 90-minute show that saw many take to their feet dancing along during the second set.”
Of course, that was just part of an active weekend of live music across West Michigan that featured a sold-out Grand Rapids show by pop violinist Kishi Bashi at The Pyramid Scheme on Friday night and a Sunday tour stop at GLC Live at 20 Monroe by Rainbow Kitten Surprise, which attracted a horde of adoring fans for a 26-song show that kicked off with the band’s latest single, “Espionage,” and closed out with “It’s Called: Freefall.” View the full set list here.
And that wasn’t all: Bronson Arm, Brother Wolf and Lucius Fox lit up Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe on Thursday to get the weekend started early.
