When Southfield post-hardcore/metalcore outfit I Prevail made its return to GLC Live at 20 Monroe in Grand Rapids on Saturday night, they implored fans from the get-go to “follow me deeper into the unknown — into your heart, into your soul.”
So, that they did, from the opening salvo of “There’s Fear in Letting Go” from the band’s latest studio album, “True Power,” to the closing blast of the encore rendition of “Bow Down” from 2019’s “TRAUMA.”
The 17-song set marked the finale of a headbanging night that also featured Pierce the Veil, Fit for a King and Yours Truly.
But it wasn’t the only fan-pleasing, rock-fueled evening to pump up fans over the weekend.
On Friday, Lokella returned to The Pyramid Scheme with Barrel Bones, You and Them and Volitionary — the same night that ska faves Mustard Plug had its happy faithful hopping, moshing and skanking at Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo.
The week and weekend also boasted exuberant fans cheering electronic music whiz Kaivon at Elevation inside The Intersection (the night after EDM’s Kai Wachi did much the same in the very same room), Texas country singer William Clark Green playing The Stache, West Michigan’s own Americana artist Myron Elkins making an appearance for WYCE’s “GR Live” at Listening Room and Detroit blues singer Thornetta Davis lighting up Kalamazoo’s Connecting Chords Music Festival at Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe. (Wayfaring plays Bell’s as part of the festival on Oct. 27.)
