The weekend show recap and photo galleries round up big celebrations at The Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids and a bevy of eclectic concerts in Kalamazoo, plus Phoebe Bridgers at Ladies Literary Club.
If West Michigan’s music scene has a seven-year itch, The Pyramid Scheme scratched it magnificently this past weekend, starting with Friday night’s sold-out seventh anniversary show starring energetic Chicago indie-rock band Twin Peaks and local heroes Heaters, plus Wulfpac.

The Pyramid Scheme followed up on Saturday with what it described as “an insane lineup.” Indeed, Grand Rapids hip hop artist Lady Ace Boogie’s album-release show for her new recording, “Don’t Box Me In,” was a star-studded affair featuring sets by Mama Sol, Molly (Molly Bouwsma Schultz) and SuperDre.
Lady Ace Boogie, aka Linda Tellis-Aguilar, responded on social media following the upbeat evening: “A lot to say, but I will start by saying thank you to everyone who came out last night and to everyone who performed.”
Meanwhile, in Kalamazoo, the return of the Friday Night Music Hop series included Sammy Melchi and JL Fulks at Arcadia Brewing Co. and Trifocal at Rupert’s Brew House. The same night, Brother Bill Revival performed at Final Gravity and The Mainstays made their Old Dog Tavern debut. The following morning, Alpin Hong performed as part of the Gilmore Festival Family Event at Zion Lutheran Church.
And earlier in the week, Phoebe Bridgers enraptured a packed auditorium at Calvin College’s Ladies Literary Club in Grand Rapids with melancholy folk songs fleshed out with a full band.
