West Michigan's music scene
Kalamazoo Pride on Saturday displayed all of the diversity that the upbeat event embraced.
The vibrant live music lineup had the crowd at Arcadia Creek Festival Place in downtown Kalamazoo dancing and cheering from the get-go, with sets from West Michigan’s The Cosmoknights, The Nathan Moore Affair, The Rebel Eves, Deadbeat Dad and finally, the soulful Detroit strains of Laura Rain & The Caesars.
Smiles were everywhere in the crowd, with a catwalk added to the stage that added to the fun for performers and fans — fun that included Drag King Throb Zombie taking that stage ahead of Laura Rain & The Caesars.
Detroit punk band The Idiot Kids followed that up with an after-party at Bell’s Brewery Eccentric Cafe.
Also in Kalamazoo, Art on the Mall Friday and Saturday featured performances by Bluesy Suzy, Ray Bro, The Plural Nouns, Dylan Tolbert and Michigan Hiryu Daiko drummers.
Meanwhile, about 35 miles away at the same time as Kalamazoo Pride, Gingerman Raceway in South Haven hosted the second day of the GridLife Festival, with electronic music unfurled by Inv3rt3d, Veronica Eileen, Qurl, Flats Stanley, Dennett, CHYL, Layz, Nightmre and finally, Sullivan King (who meshes guitar-shredding metal with electronic revelry).
