Hanson at Warner Vineyards, Umphrey’s McGee & moe. at Meijer Gardens: Photo Galleries

Wednesday night proved to be a special one for jam-band fans and pop-rock mavens packing venues in two different parts of West Michigan.

Hanson fired up 2,000-plus, devoted fans of all ages with a career-spanning set at Warner Vineyards in Paw Paw that left the crowd singing and dancing along in robust fashion after an opening set from Grand Rapids’ King Ink. Some of those fans from across the Midwest showed up as early as 6:30 a.m. to line up for the concert.

Hanson rolled out everything from “Fired Up” and “Don’t Let Me Down” to “MMMBop,” along with acoustic versions of “Penny & Me,” “Madeline” and “River.” (Set list here.)

Meanwhile, at Grand Rapids’ Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, progressive jam-band favorite Umphrey’s McGee returned to the amphitheater with fellow rockers moe. to fire up a happy bunch with songs such as “Piranhas,” “Similar Skin” and “In the Kitchen.” The two bands even paired up on stage at the end of the night for renditions of “Plane Crash,” “Attachments” and a cover of Genesis’ “That’s All.” (Set list here.)
