Bands and other performers hoping to play the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts in early June have until Feb. 1 to fill out an online application.
Festival 2017 takes place June 2-4, and will once again dominate a huge part of downtown Grand Rapids with hundreds of bands, dancers and other entertainers from eight West Michigan counties performing on several stages and regaling throngs of thousands.
Those interested in performing at the free, three-day event must fill out an application form online and pay a $10 non-refundable fee. Applicants also are required to upload online recordings or videos as part of the application process.
Organizers noted on the Festival website that “applicants should be notified by mid-April via email” if they’ve been chosen for a time slot on one of the stages.
Performers must reside in Kent, Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo or Ottawa counties.

(Editor’s Note: Local Spins found that some links on the revamped Festival website aren’t working properly, including “download the form” or links for Art on the Spot and Art Sales applications.)
Festival also noted that each dance group or dance company will be allowed to enter only one application this year.
Although festival admission is free and most performers aren’t paid at the all-volunteer event, the outdoor stages frequently draw mammoth crowds, giving many bands and solo artists a rare opportunity to play in front of thousands of fans.
