Even as July comes to an end, live music starring Michigan acts continues to heat up across the state with free weeknight concerts, from Bronson to Sparta to Hillsdale and beyond.

When soulful Grand Rapids rock band Nathan Walton & The Remedy heads to northern Michigan to play Elk Rapids’ free “Summer Concert Series at The Harbor” on Friday (Aug. 5) — the day after kicking off Shagbark Music & Arts Festival south of Grand Rapids — they’ll be one of more than 100 bands performing outdoors that week in communities across the state.
“This is one of our favorite dates to play in Michigan during the summer months,” said Walton, a Grand Rapids singer-songwriter, frontman for the band and one-time “American Idol” contestant.
“Finally, the band can spread out to a crowd looking to cut loose in the Michigan heat.”
On Tuesday, VanDyke Review Band plays Hillsdale while Steve Berkemeier plays Ludington State Park. On Wednesday, Rock Shop fires up Saugatuck’s Wicks Park the same night that Tim Velez plays St. Joseph.

On Thursday, Jazz North plays Beulah, Out of the Blue plays Crystal Township in Montcalm County, StoneFolk plays Leland, Ben Traverse Band plays Manistee, Otsego Jazz Ensemble plays Otsego and John Sanger plays Sparta, followed on Friday by The Blue Water Ramblers at Mecosta’s Bromley Park and The B-Side Growlers in St. Joseph.
