The unusual musical endeavor was initially billed as a “top secret project.”
Well, it’s a secret no more.
Grand Haven’s Third Coast Recording Co. released a single and video starring 15 female singers from across West Michigan – a who’s who lineup of stars unleashing a choral rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.”
The group, featuring the likes of Hannah Rose Graves, Hannah Laine, Lady Ace Boogie, Patty PerShayla, Emilee Petersmark of The Crane Wives, Loren Johnson, Sandra Effert and others, gathered in mid-September at the Grand Haven studio to record the track, with the video created by Sarah Ford.
“It was amazing,” said Elle Lively, a tour manager and artist development professional who works closely with Third Coast Recording and who directed the “super cool” undertaking that was arranged by Geoff Hansen of Hark Up Music.
The project was inspired by a similar, nationally acclaimed project created by The Highwomen (the supergroup of Amanda Shires, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby).
And Lively said West Michigan fans can expect yet another super-group video sometime after Christmas. (A follow-up wouldn’t be surprising, considering the initial story about “The Chain” video at Local Spins drew thousands of readers, as well as plenty of buzz on social media with 12,00-plus views on Facebook and 4,000 more on YouTube.)
“The goal was to provide a space for collaboration,” Lively said of “The Chain” project featuring female artists from across the region.
Other vocalists performing the song were Zuzu Nyson, Sarena Chandler, Alicia Scott (Fast Hands Band), Danielle Cosby (Blue Water Kings), Lauren Onica (A Brighter Bloom), Jennifer Bartlett (Lokella), Jenna Olson (Political Lizard) and Audrey Nusbaum (The Soul Syndicate).
Musicians backing the singers included guitarist Joe Sturgill, drummer Scott Pellegrom, organist Dutcher Snedeker, bassist Justin Avdek, guitarist Kevin Kozel, violinist Ruth Vanden Bos and violist Connor Meston.
