Summer wastes no time cranking up the amps for outdoor music across West Michigan. And things were hectic indoors over the past week, too. Ogle all the images in these Local Spins galleries.

It was a near-perfect June week for soaking up rays and soaking up live music in the great outdoors.

Summer Strains: Outdoor music was everywhere in Rockford this week. (Photo/Anna Sink)
That ranged from the kickoff to community concert series such as the Rogue River Blues Series, the return of Buttermilk Jamboree, the Start of Summer Celebration in Rockford, Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park’s summer series opener with The Monkees, Spoke Folks’ Crank 2016 and Rumsey Street Bazaar fundraisers in Grand Rapids and more
Spoke Folks executive director Jay Niewiek may have put it perfectly in describing Crank 2016, but it could apply to all of these summer events: “Stop taking ourselves so serious and have fun.” Even a power outage during Grand Rapids’ Rumsey Street Bazaar that affected some vendors on Saturday didn’t halt the fun: Power was restored in time for a funky evening fashion show and families enjoyed everything from clothing to fine art to music.
The litany of outdoor options featured the likes of Hannah Rose & The Gravestones, Valentiger, Roosevelt Diggs, The Outer Vibe, Megan Dooley, Vox Vidorra, Gabriel Brass Band and hordes more at Buttermilk Jamboree and Start of Summer.
For indoor fun there was The Joy Formidable at Founders Brewing, Blitzen Trapper at The Pyramid Scheme, Jim Shaneberger’s Prince Tribute at The Intersection, Bigfoot Buffalo returning to the Local Spins Wednesdays series at SpeakEZ Lounge, The Soil & The Sun at Founders Brewing (with Nashville’s Keeps), Beast in the Field’s final Grand Rapids show, with BoneHawk opening, at The Pyramid Scheme (which also hosted a free show later in the week featuring Vox Vidorra, Cabildo and AOK), and The Accidentals (with special guest Rick Chyme) and Megan Dooley and the Last Roots at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo.
