The 49th Eastown Streetfair’s apropos slogan for 2022 also signals what organizers from Grand Rapids’ Eastown community are calling one of the biggest events they’ve staged since 2016, with 16 bands, vendors, food trucks, beer, cider, art and the WYCE CD & Record Sale rolling out for the day-long festival on Saturday.

Running 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Wealthy Street SE between Giddings Avenue and Lake Drive, the live entertainment portion of the event will run from noon to about 9 p.m. on three different stages — an outdoor stage on Wealthy near Giddings, and indoors at Billy’s Lounge and Mulligan’s Pub.
The musical offerings on the outdoor stage alone cover the gamut — from singer-songwriter Cole Hansen to the wild on-stage antics of PotatoeBabies to the rock of Birdie Country and Low Phase to the classic blues of Asamu Johnson & The Associates of the Blues, who close it all out at 8 p.m.
The Billy’s Lounge lineup is similarly eclectic, kicking off with the psychedelic funk of The Mel V Collective and finishing up with the rock/funk/pop of Common Molly. Mulligan’s, meanwhile, rocks heavy with the likes of Mooch Globe, Sid & The Plastics and Slumlord Radio. (It’s all ages at the indoor venues until 8 p.m. Those 17 and youngerr require a guardian; those 18-and-older require a valid I.D.)
After a two-year-hiatus, WYCE also will return to the Eastown Streetfair with its CD & Record Sale, along with T-shirts, socks, bags and other merch, hosted by on-air WYCE programmers and volunteers.
Billed as “a family-friendly celebration of arts, crafts, food, music and the Eastown neighborhood (one of Grand Rapids’ most eclectic districts),” the beer tent for the 2022 event will be open until 10 p.m. (Organizers have asked that attendees leave their pets at home.)
“We are thrilled to be ‘back on the bricks,’ ” said Pamela Goderski of the Eastown Community Association Board’s events committee.
